Simplifying the University Application Process with AI
At District 3, we're proud to highlight CanApply, an innovative pre-seed venture in the Social Innovation sector founded by Behnam Farsi. This forward-thinking entrepreneur is creating new solutions in EdTech & Online Learning to address significant challenges faced by international students.
The Personal Challenge
Behnam's journey began with his own struggles as a newcomer to Quebec from Iran. During this transition, he encountered numerous obstacles that many international students face:
- Navigating complex college application processes
- Overcoming language barriers
- Understanding and fulfilling visa requirements
These firsthand experiences revealed a critical need for better systems to support international students pursuing education in Canada.
The Innovation
Drawing on his expertise in Machine Learning, Behnam developed a groundbreaking solution:
- A streamlined website enabling international students to apply to Canadian universities in under five minutes
- 'Dana', an AI assistant designed to answer prospective students' questions
- Automated systems to help students efficiently receive admission letters
This technology-driven approach dramatically simplifies what was previously a complex, time-consuming, and often frustrating process for international applicants.
From Personal Experience to Purpose-Driven Venture
Behnam's journey exemplifies how personal challenges can inspire innovative solutions. Believing strongly in his vision to help others avoid the difficulties he experienced, he set out to create a platform that would make Canadian education more accessible to international students.
The District 3 Impact
At District 3, Behnam found valuable coaching expertise that helped him focus and develop his idea into a viable business:
- Guidance on developing a sustainable business model
- Support in building a product with genuine user value
- Mentorship to balance innovation with business fundamentals
"I had this idea that we need to raise millions of dollars. My coach was Julie, and she was telling me, be calm, try to build a good business, not just raise money. You want to develop a product that has value for your users."
— Behnam Farsi, Founder, CanApply
